Letter from the CEO While I can't believe that the year is already half over, I consider the old adage 'time flies when you are having fun' and then it makes perfect sense. As I look back on the past six months, I can point to so many exciting milestones for LifeCare that it is hard to focus on just one. You will find additional details throughout the newsletter for your reference, but here is a brief review of the highlights. I was honored to be invited to attend the historic Forum on Workplace Flexibility, which was hosted by President Obama, First Lady Michelle Obama, and the White House Council on Women and Girls. The forum brought together business owners, business leaders, policy experts, workers and labor leaders to share their ideas and strategies for making the workplace more flexible for American workers and families. As one of the 100 invited guests, it was a privilege to be in a position to share my thoughts, experiences, and best practice programs with colleagues at one of the breakout sessions. The entire experience was validation that workplace flexibility and work/life balance are finally getting attention and support from the highest levels. In May, the Evan B. Donaldson Adoption Institute held its 7th Annual "Taste of Spring" Food & Wine Benefit in New York City. During this fun-filled evening, which featured celebrity chefs from top New York restaurants and fine wines from around the world, LifeCare was honored for our efforts in helping enhance the lives of everyone touched by adoption. LifeCare partnered with the Adoption Institute last year and we are committed to supporting their mission of increasing the level of quality and support for adoptive and foster families across the country through our programs and services. We also established a new partnership with Ellen Galinsky, President and Co-Founder of Families and Work Institute. At the Institute, Ms. Galinsky co-directs the National Study of the Changing Workforce, the most comprehensive nationally-representative study of the U.S. workforce. She also co-directs When Work Works, a project on workplace flexibility and effectiveness funded by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. However, the core of her work has always focused on child development. For the past eight years, Ellen has worked with the top researchers in the field, filming and studying the science of early learning. Her newest book, Mind in the Making, shares incredible insights and identifies seven life skills that will help children reach their full potential in school, in the workforce and in life. We at LifeCare were so captivated by these concepts and the findings, that we began distributing the book in every Prenatal Kit that is requested by LifeCare members. Be sure to contact LifeCare for more information about our partnerships, products, and services. We would welcome the opportunity to learn about your company and discuss strategies for improving your bottom line. Sincerely,
Peter G. Burki, CEO |
